Girls in Summer Camp a big success!

Prof. O’Neil taught a neuroscience module in the 2022 GIS Summer camp in Middletown, CT.

Campers learned about the 4 major lobes of their brain, doing activities to exercise each lobe, and then created a “brain hat” to show off their lobes.

Campers also learned about how our brains are connected to the rest of our body via neurons.  The class built a neuron circuit and tried to send a signal from one side to another as fast as they could.

We are hiring!

We are actively seeking a post-doctoral researcher and PhD student to work on our new stem cell-based Alzheimer’s research direction.

Please email your CV to Prof. O’Neil to inquire.

In this issue, we spotlight Naho Maruta from the College of East Asian Studies; Alison O’Neil from the Chemistry Department; and Ron Jenkins from the Theater Department.

The Lab is BACK!

Following the CT Governor’s announcement that University Research Labs could open as part of Phase I, and the tremendous efforts by the Wesleyan Facilities Staff and EHS, we are open!  The Summer Undergraduate Research Program may be canceled, but those that are here are up and running. 🙂

Congrats to Dani Moreira for her work on the LRFI!

This summer Dani worked at NIRH working on Health Policy. One of her main roles was as a researcher on the Local Reproductive Freedom Index. The LRFI evaluates 50 major cities in the US and gives them a score out of 5 stars on the reproductive health care/ access to health care. The LRFI was just published Monday October 21, 2019.
